Hello peopleee
finally ended part 1 of my Voice production AAU280 - Seminar presentation.
the script was fine, the slides were fine but the voice wasn't. Too much nerves overwhelms me and all even though rehearsals and practices went all well, I stuttered real lot when I presented.
the worse part is majority of the class did really well and most people are from courses like WKW etc. mega sigh. but oh wells, I still got 70% left and nxt week will be presentation on prose and poetry D: Wayang time...z

Recently, our facebook newsfeed has always been
flooded with articles shared by our friends from thoughtcataloge or websites
like life buzz. These articles are mostly titled ‘things you should stop doing
in your 20s’ , ‘people you meet in a university lecture’, ’10 things you should
start doing’ and so on. Its not usual to see all these articles being highly
popular as afterall humans are curious creatures and its especially heartening
to gain an insight from someone else or to realize you are not the only on
facing those difficulties. I am currently a year one student from
bioengineering. As semester two is coming to an end, I want to share with you
all the diffulties I faced in university and things I learnt. Hopefully it
brings some sort of relive to those who are facing the same difficulty.
1. First
and foremost, you will miss your family. This is especially so for those who
are currently staying in halls. Most of us only goes back on weekends which
reduces our time spent at home by nearly 70% and not to say sometimes when we
have hall activities during weekend, we don’t even have the time to travel
home. However even for those who did not, you also realize that you are
spending a lot of time in school, be it participating in clubs, for studies or
project. On top of all these, our school location at the far end of the MRT
green line makes your travelling time takes up a significant portion of your
day. Hence sometimes by the time you reached home, your family will all be asleep.
We need to bear in mind that while
you all are missing your families, the feeling works both way. Hence its
important that we find sometime every other day and drop a call to your family
members and show your concern.
2. You
gain a lot of freedom suddenly. Again for those who are staying in hall, there
will no longer have someone to nag at you for sleeping late, no one to take
care of your meals nor laundry. You go to supper at unearthly hour and join in
‘heart-to-heart’ talks that lasted all the way till morning. In addition, I
think its quite applicable to nearly everyone that we have the freedom to
attend lessons or not. Especially for those engineering course, our lectures
are all recorded and hence we always have the mindset that it doesn’t really matters
if we miss a few lectures.
With that, its essential that we
have the discipline to take care of our own well being and independent on the
things you used to relied on your mother. In the case we miss lesson, we need
to catch up on the online recorded lectures immediately. Else, they will
accumulate and by the time final comes; the only thing we can say to ourselves
is gg. In addition, we need to learnt how to priorities our activities and
balance our studies with our social life.
3. There
will be some point in your university life that you feel that life is unfair.
As competition for hall staying is high, there is a system called the rec list.
Theoretically, those who contributed the most to the hall will get rec back.
However, in reality, the rec list is highly dependent on your skills and
ability or even sometimes your relationship with the hall committee members,
instead of your contribution. In terms of studies, you noticed that you are
putting in way more efforts than your fellow course mates yet the results
doesn’t seems to match up with the efforts you put in.
Yes, life is unfair, but that’s how
the society works. Evolution has taught us survival of the fittest. Hence many
a times though we feel like giving up, we should instead hang on and opt for
self-improvement. We should learn from our mistakes and not dwell on why life
is unfair.
4. You
meet a lot of people, You made a lot of friends. But you also realize who your
real friends are. The university is huge and its not difficult to meet people. You
may have participated in a lot of camps before semester started, and get to
know a lot of people. However, as you face difficulties transiting from junior
colleges or poly to university, you noticed who the ones by your side are when
you need help. Someone once told me, there are 3 kinds of people you need to
remember in your life. First are those who helped you when you are facing
difficulty, Second are those who left when you needed help and lastly, those
who put you in your difficult state.
Hence it makes me treasure even
more those friends whom I made and stayed.
In conclusion, as I am still only a freshie in NTU. There
are still a lot of things I cannot fathom, alots of things I am still trying to
cope with. A year in university has taught me a lot and I really look forward
to learning more as I spend more years in NTU.
}oh well, life goes on. Bye guys!
